Hello Parents carers and students!
I hope you enjoyed last week’s warm and cool coloured painting activity. I have started putting some of your work up on “Ms Woodbridge’s Wacky World of Art” Facebook page to showcase and share our amazing arty creations!
This week we are going to do something really different and fun!
We are going to explore painting with …. COFFEE!
Painting with coffee is a great activity to do at home, especially if you don’t have any paint. To complete this activity you are going to need:
- A paintbrush
- Instant Coffee
- A pencil and paper
People have painted with Coffee and Tea for hundreds of Years! It began in Ancient China, and crept into Europe as it was slowly introduced. Here are some wonderful examples of famous artworks that have been recreated using just coffee. Can you recognise any of the artworks?
Here is an example of how you can paint with coffee. This artist just made three cups. He used weak coffee for the lighter tones and lots and lots of coffee for the darker tones. Some people also put coffee grains straight onto their paper to get different effects!
I think it would be fun to make a landscape painting using coffee!
A landscape is a painting is when you paint a natural or country side scenery such as rolling hills and a big sky. Landscape paintings usually have a foreground, middle ground and back ground that make up the picture.
Can you see the foreground , middle ground and background in the below pictures?

Things to have a think about
- Did you enjoy using something different?
- Did you notice the amazing smell of coffee whilst you were painting?
- What did you find a bit tricky?
- Did you make a foreground, middle ground and back ground?
I can’t wait to see what you have all come up with!
Until next week! Stay safe and have fun!
